Mission 2017

Stichting van het Kind

NieuwLicht is the first festival that inspires and moves a generation to improve the lives of others. Everybody contributes; participants, sponsors, visitors and artists. Just by having a great time, sharing their energy, creativity and by being part of this concept.

We want to make an effort to support the lives of the less fortunate in this world. With a series of creative events we will open up your view on this world and at the same time give you the chance to contribute.
Each year, all event participants donate part of their entrance fee to a good cause, supporting the lives of others. In 2017, NieuwLicht will support de Stichting van het Kind.

The Foundation’s aim is to stimulate the development and increase of self-reliance of children living in homes so that they, like other children, have opportunities to enter into society. De Stichting van het Kind (Foundation for Children) helps these children with concrete, practical projects in their neighborhood. We are pleased to be able to contribute to their goals with NieuwLicht Festival 2017.

Carlos Valdes

Carlos Valdes has been at the heart of the Amsterdam scene for years, as a DJ, label boss and promoter. His DJ sets mix up everything from hypnotic techno to kicking house and, rather than playing all the big hits, he selects the records that make most sense at the time. He is well known for his classy and considered taste. This lead to him becoming one of the Techno curators for 22tracks.

Carlos has earned a fine reputation in his own country, around Europe and also outside the continent. He was one of the residents at Amsterdams foremost club, TrouwAmsterdam. Carlos is also a resident for LET, one of Amsterdams leading party organizations. Over the years he has played esteemed clubs like Panoramabar, Robert Johnson and Concrete. And festivals such as Awakenings and Nachtdigital. He was invited at label nights such as Cadenza and Dekmantel and he performed at Circo Loco. He went outside of Europe to perform at the infamous D-Edge, in Sao Paulo in Brasil.

Back in 2000 he started Studio Soulrock, a much loved organization and label. It put on countless parties and hosted myriad festivals stages in the years since. He is the man behind the Vreemd club nights, which have been the most vibrant and popular way to party on a Thursday night in Amsterdam for years and he keeps on coming up with exciting new concepts. Most recently these include ...Is Burning, the gay night that started at Trouw, run by Carlos and friend Sandrien. This day and night party has now spread its wings form Cruquiusgilde to MMA in Munich and more. Carlos has been responsible for unearthing and bringing on many young talents on his local scene with the parties he organizes and the music he released on his label. To date the label has released fine EPs from the likes of Bootleg Bitches, San Proper & Steven de Peven, Young Marco and Tom Trago & Awanto 3, with remixes coming from classy operators such as Genius of Time and Axel Boman.

Carlos Valdes, then, is a true musical tour de force, a person powered by passion and someone constantly on a quest for party perfection. Whether it’s his storied DJ sets, acclaimed releases on Studio Soulrock or his continued dedication to the furthering of the Dutch scene, he is an essential pillar of the dance music community.

Grooving without a doubt! Whether it's house music from Chicago and Detroit, acid, breakbeat or electro - TITIA always picks her records full of funk.
Her sets are a well-tuned balanced blend between old, underground records and new releases, that have that raunchy, authentic sound. Her raw and grimy vibe brought her to TrouwAmsterdam, to play at the infamous Is Burning party, as well as Shelter, de School, BAR Rotterdam, Radion, ZeeZout, Cartel, La Java in Paris and she has also played many festivals in the NL and Belgium.

Just like the vodka from his birthplace, Moscow-born Dutch-resident MAKCIM always fuels the party spirit with his intoxicating and powerful sets, mixing house and techno to create refreshingly deep and sexy grooves. And when he’s not inspiring the clubbing crowds from the vinyl decks, you’ll find him releasing quality tunes on Raum Musik, Apollonia together with his music partner-in-crime Levi Verspeek.

A colourful childhood in Russia, painted with the sounds of Joy Division, Talking Heads, Depeche Mode, Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Blondie, Pink Floyd as well as jazz greats Miles Davis and Marcus Miller, meant that by the time MAKCIM moved to the Netherlands, at the age of 12, he knew music was going to be a huge part of his life.

By 1996, inspired by the house scene, he started buying records each week and by 1999 at the age of 20, he got his first residency in a club in Eindhoven. At the same time he began organising illegal parties and together with friends and founded a new platform called ‘Minimal Eindhoven’ which became fundamental to the Dutch house & techno scene.

In 2008, Amsterdam imprint, Remote Area, welcomed MAKCIM together with his music partner in crime, Managemend (aka Roel van Otterdijk), into the fold with the release of their first EP “Lithe”. Their collaborative genius was a powerful mix, blending MAKCIM’s perfection for cool and funky rhythms with Managemend’s brilliance for creating chunky, deep, soulful loops. It’s therefore no surprise that they’ve since been regular guests on the label with their 2nd EP ‘Red Aglet’ and track “Hid” released on the label’s debut album in 2009, then again in 2010 with the release of their EPs “Boyism” and “Fur Cage”.

Each release unique, but always taking you on a quality sound journey to the deeper, funkier side of techhouse life with sexed up steamy vocal snippets and chunky rolling rhythms which continue to tick all the right boxes for the DJ likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Richie Hawtin, Luciano, Zip, tINI and more.

And now, when MAKCIM is not in the studio with Ferro or Levi crafting new tunes, he can be seen and heard spinning vinyl at Berlin’s Club der Visionaere and Hoppetosse as well as in party hotspots across New York, Ibiza, Barcelona, London, Moscow and more.

With releases on Raum Musik, Apollonia, Roate and more to come with Levi– it’s as clear as vodka that if you want to get funked up, then MAKCIM will mix you a perfect cocktail of house and techno tunes for deep and long all night party play.

Reiss has been a pivotal figure of the Amsterdam house and techno underground for quite some time. His extensive record collection, combined with a refined sense of (club) atmosphere, enables him to create cohesion and unison on the dance floor. His sound can be described as a delicate flow of rhythm’s and soundscapes spiced up with occasional and surprising idiosyncrasies. Reiss is represented by the VBX artist agency and hold’s a residency at their Amsterdam based events.

Reiss did the warm up for artist like Raresh at Trouw, Cassy at Studio 80, Vera at the VBX ADE event and, more recently, Dewalta at a VBX Current event. Also he closed the night after Margaret Dygas this past summer and did the warm up for Tama Sumo in Nijmegen a few weeks after. His latest major performance was at the ADE 2014 after-hours hosted by VBX x Solid AM. Here he shared the bill with Onur Ozer and Dewalta.

Reiss his DJ skills also made him in demand across Dutch borders. He traveled to Paris to play an all-nighter at Le Malibv with Half-Baked resident Yakine in the spring of 2014. A few months later he was invited by VBX companion Terje Bakke to play the infamous ‘Missing Links’ party in Darmstadt.

Reiss is also the curator and owner of the vinyl only label Dialegestai. The first release by Malin Genie was highly praised and sold out in the blink of an eye. The long awaited second release by Romanian artists Cristi Cons and Vlad Radu, performed similar. Keep an eye out for the third. It will be something special!

These days Reiss has also started to explorer the realm of production. Mainly through hardware but utilising the benefits of software as well. More news about this soon!
